Md. Ashikur Sheikh Shoudo, CEO of TheKami

Shoudo (সৌধ)

Hello world! I’m Md. Ashikur Sheikh Shoudo, but you can call me Shoudo (সৌধ). I’m the CEO of TheKami, and on top of that I’m still a student. I study CST at MAWTS Institute of Technology in Pallabi, Dhaka. I’m a developer too, the kind who uses Linux a little and does this and that with the Android SDK.

That’s the short version. Here’s how I got here.

Where I’m from

I was born on 22 November 2007 in Gaibandha Sadar. There are five of us at home: my father, my mother, my younger brother, my younger sister and me. My father is a retired police officer and my mother looks after our home.

Because of Dad’s job we never stayed in one place for long. In my early years we went back and forth between Gaibandha and Rajshahi, and for a while I stayed with or near my maternal grandparents. I don’t remember much from those years, so I won’t pretend I do. Around 2010 his posting brought us to Dhaka, and it has been home ever since.

School

I studied at Shaheed Police Smrity College (SPSC) in Mirpur-14 from 2015 until September 2023. That’s almost my whole school life in one place.

Then I transferred to Rangpur and finished my SSC at Siddiqe Memorial School and College (SMSC). Dhaka was the only city I really knew, so leaving wasn’t easy. In May 2025 I came back.

Just an average student

I’m an average student, honestly. When I was younger I was pretty lazy about studies, and it was never my strong side. I don’t have a good excuse for that.

But there was always one thought sitting at the back of my head: I have to do something good with my life someday. I had no idea what that “something” was. Not knowing bothered me for a long time, and slowly it turned into curiosity.

How I got into tech

I didn’t pick this field because I had a plan. I just wanted to do something meaningful, so I spent a lot of time online, watching what other people were making and trying to understand how technology works. What got me was that people were actually building things. Android apps, websites, games, tools, whole products.

Android was my favourite. I’d use an app and wonder how it worked, and sometimes I’d think, if I don’t like how this works, why can’t I just make my own? That was one of my first real reasons to get into software.

Then I started finding Bangladeshi software engineers online, like Zulkarnine Mahmud and Zaheed Sabur, and many others working at places like Google, Microsoft and Amazon. I don’t know their stories in detail. I just remember seeing them and thinking, ok, so this is possible from here too. Before that, software to me meant small Android apps.

Later my friend Ruhan Bin Rouf got me into Linux. Android runs on the Linux kernel, so it fit right in, and my interest slowly spread from Android apps to operating systems and software in general.

MAWTS

Me at MAWTS

After coming back to Dhaka I got admitted to MAWTS Institute of Technology in Pallabi. I’m doing the four-year Diploma in Computer Science and Technology (CST) there.

Class is one part of it. The rest is building things on the side, mostly with Ruhan.

TheKami

Shoudo, TheKami

It started much smaller than it sounds. Ruhan and I were first-semester students at MAWTS, and every assignment needed a hand-designed cover page in MS Word. A lot of students had no computer or printer at home. Ruhan decided to fix that. He built a web tool that made assignment cover pages automatically, using the institute’s logo and design standards. At first it wasn’t even hosted anywhere. He ran it on his own machine and used ngrok so others could test it.

It worked, and it solved a real problem. I had wanted to start a software company for a while, so I told Ruhan we should take this more seriously. His answer was to create a GitHub organization, a place for two students to build and experiment with no clients and no deadlines. Later he registered the thekami.tech domain, and somewhere along the way those student projects became TheKami.

Today TheKami is a small remote-first software team, founded in Dhaka in January 2026. I’m the CEO and Co-founder, and Ruhan is the Founder and Co-founder. We build websites, Android and desktop apps, and open-source tools. To be honest, we don’t have any employees yet and we’re not hiring right now, so don’t picture a big office. You can read more on the About TheKami page.

Scann is one of TheKami’s apps, a QR and barcode scanner on the Play Store, and I contributed code to it. It’s open source. I know the UI won’t impress everyone, and that’s fine. If you’re a developer reading this, go to the repo on GitHub, fork it, build it, commit whatever you like. If your code makes it better, we’ll happily publish the update on the Play Store too.

TheKami changed how I think. Before it, I was asking what should I learn? After it, I started asking what can we build?

What I’m doing now

Right now I’m working on some TheKami projects and internal applications, and I also help out with our public and open-source projects. Alongside that I’m studying at MAWTS.

We’re still very young. There’s a lot we haven’t figured out, like how to work with clients, manage projects and make better technical and business decisions. I expect to get plenty of it wrong before I get it right.

Things I want to do

I have a lot on my list, but here’s a small spoiler. I want to go hiking. I’ve never gone very far or up a mountain, but I really want to. I also want to try skydiving and scuba diving, and I’d love to visit around 70% of the countries in the world.

Inshallah, as far as Allah takes me.

Where I want to go

My dream is to see TheKami become one of the leading tech companies in Bangladesh someday, and after that to reach an international level, building products for people around the world.

I don’t know how long it will take or what the road will look like. It’s a dream, not a prediction. A lot of things have to go right, and I’m sure a lot will go wrong. But I know where I want to go.

Maybe someday I’ll come back to this page and realise how little I knew when I wrote it. And maybe that will be the best part.
